Heartbroken Michael Jordan overcome with emotions

Michael Jordan paid an emotional tribute to basketball icon Jerry West after news broke that the NBA legend — widely known as the inspiration behind the league’s logo — died at age 86.

During First Take, it was revealed that Jordan, 61, texted Stephen A. Smith live on air to share his thoughts about the man he long admired.

“He was a reliable friend and teacher — like an older brother,” Jordan wrote. “I valued his friendship and understanding. Although I always wanted to play against him, the more I got to know him, the more I wished I had been on his team.”

Jordan also praised West’s deep understanding of the game, noting their similar approach to basketball.

“His basketball knowledge impressed me, and the way he and I played the game was a lot alike,” he added.

He closed the message with condolences to West’s family: “His wife Karen and son will miss him forever. My condolences. Heaven’s peace, Logo.”

Fans quickly reacted online, with many moved by the tribute. “Wow, that’s really nice of MJ,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Jerry West was the best general manager ever — unquestionably the GOAT GM. Rest in peace, Jerry ‘The Logo’ West.”

West leaves behind a towering legacy both on the court and in the front office, remembered as one of basketball’s most influential figures.
