If World War III Broke Out, Here’s Who in the U.S. Could Be Drafted First

The U.S. currently operates an all-volunteer military, but the Selective Service System provides a legal framework to reinstate the draft in a major national emergency. Men aged 18–25 must register, and a lottery would determine the order of induction.
Those called would undergo medical and mental evaluations, with possible deferments or alternative service for conscientious objectors. Women are not required to register under current law. Registration ensures the U.S. can quickly expand its military if a national crisis, like a hypothetical World War III, ever arose.
