Five-year-old Lila Marsland was a joyful, energetic child whose sudden death from pneumococcal meningitis after being misdiagnosed with tonsillitis has deeply impacted her community. Despite their grief, her parents launched Lila’s Light, a charity providing bereavement support to children who’ve lost a sibling. With over $24,000 raised and support in 15 hospitals, the initiative helps kids express their emotions through drawing and writing. Lila’s family hopes her story raises awareness of early illness signs and the importance of listening to parents. Her light lives on through love, advocacy, and lasting change in pediatric care.
