Newborn Girl Injured During Emergency C-Section in Denver, Family Raises Concerns Over Rare Complication

A Denver family is speaking out after a newborn baby suffered a serious facial injury during an emergency delivery, prompting questions and emotional distress for the parents.
Reazjhana Williams had originally planned for a natural birth when she arrived at a Denver hospital in June 2021. However, according to her account, doctors were unable to detect the baby’s heartbeat, leading to an urgent medical response and an emergency C-section.
Medical staff reportedly administered medication to speed up labor before Williams was rushed into surgery.
After delivery, her daughter, Kyanni Williams, was found to have a deep facial laceration that required immediate attention from a plastic surgeon. According to the family, the injury required 13 stitches to close.
Doctors later explained to the family that the baby’s positioning during the emergency procedure may have contributed to the injury, describing it as a known but rare complication in urgent C-sections.
Denver Health stated it had been in direct contact with the family and emphasized that its medical team acted in the best interest of both mother and child during the emergency situation. The hospital also noted that patient safety remains its top priority.
The family has expressed emotional distress over the outcome and has questioned aspects of the procedure, while acknowledging the urgency of the medical circumstances at the time.
A fundraising effort has since been launched to help cover medical expenses related to the baby’s treatment, raising thousands of dollars in community support.
Medical experts note that emergency C-sections are sometimes required when fetal distress is detected, and while complications are rare, they can occur depending on positioning and urgency during delivery.
