Factory Fire in Trikala Leaves Four Dead, Investigation Underway
A deadly fire at a biscuit manufacturing facility near Trikala has claimed the lives of four workers, according to Greek authorities. The blaze broke out in the early hours of the morning at an industrial site operated by Violanta, prompting a large-scale emergency response from fire and rescue services.
Officials reported that the fire started around 4:00 a.m., when flames were detected inside the facility. Emergency crews were dispatched immediately to the scene, located approximately 200 miles north of Athens. At the time of the incident, 13 workers were present on the night shift.
Authorities confirmed that eight workers were able to evacuate safely. Firefighters later recovered four deceased victims after gaining access to heavily damaged sections of the building. One worker was initially reported missing during the early stages of the response, as search efforts continued inside the facility.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Greek officials have not yet provided details on what may have triggered the blaze, and forensic teams are continuing to examine the site. Emergency services have also begun assessing safety conditions at the factory and supporting the families of those affected.
The incident has raised renewed attention on industrial safety standards as investigators work to determine how the fire started and whether it could have been prevented.
