Psychotherapist issues chilling prediction that Donald Trump will ‘kill more people than Hitler’

Psychotherapist Dr. John Gartner, founder of the advocacy group Duty To Warn, has reignited debate over Donald Trump’s mental fitness with a stark public warning that is drawing both outrage and concern. Citing Trump’s speeches, social media activity, and repeated comparisons of himself to figures such as Jesus, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, and Alexander the Great, Gartner argues the former president’s behavior reflects more than political narcissism. In his view, it signals a dangerous combination of cognitive decline and escalating grandiosity in a man who has held — and could again hold — immense military power.

Gartner’s most controversial statement — that Trump could “kill more people than Hitler” — was framed not as a formal diagnosis, but as what he describes as an ethical warning about the risks of unchecked authority combined with alleged mental deterioration. His remarks have intensified an already heated national argument over the role mental health professionals should play in assessing political leaders from afar.

Critics say public speculation about psychiatric conditions without direct evaluation is irresponsible and politically charged. Supporters, however, argue that professionals have a moral obligation to speak when they believe public safety could be at stake.

Caught between those opposing views is a broader question increasingly surfacing in American politics: how should voters weigh concerns about temperament, cognition, and psychological stability when evaluating candidates for the presidency?
