Oral cancer can develop on the lips, tongue, gums, cheeks, and other mouth tissues, and while early detection greatly improves outcomes, symptoms are often subtle. A sore that doesn’t heal within two weeks is a key warning sign, even if it’s not painful, and white or red patches—especially red ones—may indicate abnormal cell growth. Unexplained bleeding, lumps, thick or rough areas, persistent numbness, and ongoing mouth or jaw pain are also concerning, as are difficulties with chewing, swallowing, or jaw movement.
