Beloved TV star dies of cancer aged just 61

Veteran Canadian journalist Thomson, known for high-profile interviews with politicians and celebrities, died Sunday morning at 61 after a long battle with cancer, according to CTV News. She was surrounded by family.

Thomson spent more than 30 years in broadcasting, joining CTV News Toronto as a reporter and later anchoring on CTV News Channel after appearing on Canada AM. She previously worked as a Global News anchor from 1997 to 2003 and received the RTDNA Canada lifetime achievement award last October.

Her career included coverage of the 2016 U.S. election and interviews with Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Donald Trump and astronaut Chris Hadfield. Bell Media news executive Richard Gray called her a “trusted voice and valued teammate” in a statement honoring her legacy.
