Man Who Beat His 2-Day-Old Baby To Faces Reckoning After Cellmate Discovers His Secret

Man Convicted of Baby’s Murder Found Dead in Prison
Liam Deane, the man serving a life sentence for the murder of his newborn daughter, has been found dead just weeks after beginning his prison term. Authorities confirmed the discovery was made roughly one month after his incarceration.
Deane had been jailed after admitting he fatally assaulted his two-day-old daughter, Luna, telling investigators he punched and shook the infant because she would not stop crying. The baby died three days later from severe brain injuries. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison by a court in Leeds, England.
Following the discovery of Deane’s body, fellow inmate John Westland was charged in connection with the death and later appeared in court. Officials have not released full details of the incident, and the matter proceeded through the legal system.
During Deane’s original trial, prosecutors told the court he accepted responsibility for the injuries, saying he had “lost control” when the baby would not settle. Defense attorney Richard Wright acknowledged there was no justification for his client’s actions.
Prison authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding Deane’s death.
