Jane Fonda Faces Renewed Criticism Over Vietnam War-Era Protests

Renowned actress and activist Jane Fonda, 83, has once again become the focus of public debate after former Trump aide Stephen Miller criticized her Vietnam War-era activism during a Fox News interview.
Miller labeled Fonda’s 1970s protests as “treasonous,” citing her controversial 1972 trip to North Vietnam. He highlighted radio broadcasts in which she criticized the U.S. military, the well-known photo of Fonda next to an anti-aircraft gun, and her symbolic wearing of a Vietnamese soldier’s helmet—actions that earned her the enduring nickname “Hanoi Jane.”
The former aide questioned whether her activism from decades ago should continue to influence her legacy, despite Fonda’s long-standing work as an advocate for social and environmental causes.
The segment has reignited discussion among veterans, historians, and the public, illustrating how the events of the Vietnam era continue to spark debate over patriotism, protest, and the role of celebrity in political activism.
