Father who murdered 10-year-old daughter is attacked in prison

Sara Sharif Murder: Child Killer Attacked in Prison by Fellow Inmates

The brutal murder of 10-year-old Sara Sharif shocked the world in 2023, exposing years of abuse that prosecutors later described as a “campaign of torture.” Now, the case has taken another disturbing turn after her father, Urfan Sharif, was reportedly attacked by fellow prisoners behind bars.

Sara’s body was discovered on August 8, 2023, at the family home in Woking. Police found the young girl dead in her bunk bed alongside a handwritten note in which Sharif admitted responsibility for beating his daughter before fleeing the country.

Sharif, along with Sara’s stepmother Beinash Batool and uncle Faisal Malik, had traveled to Pakistan shortly before the discovery. After an international investigation, all three were arrested and later charged.

Court hearings revealed the extent of the abuse: Sara had suffered more than 70 injuries, including multiple fractures, burns, bite marks and severe head trauma. In December 2024, Sharif was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 40 years, while Batool received a life sentence with a minimum of 33 years. Malik was sentenced to 16 years for allowing the death of a child.

Sharif is currently being held at HMP Belmarsh in south London, a high-security prison often referred to as Britain’s “Guantanamo Bay.” According to reports, other inmates quickly learned about his crimes — something that can make prisoners convicted of child abuse targets behind bars.

On New Year’s Day, just weeks into his sentence, Sharif was allegedly ambushed in his cell by two inmates using a makeshift weapon made from the lid of a tuna can. He was reportedly slashed in the neck and face and required medical treatment but survived the attack.

Reports have linked one of the alleged attackers to convicted murderer Steve Sansom, who is serving a life sentence for the 2024 killing of Sarah Mayhew and previously for the 1999 murder of taxi driver Terrence Boyle.

Prison officials have not publicly confirmed the identities of those involved, but sources say Sharif had already been considered a high-risk inmate due to the nature of his crime.

The killing of Sara Sharif continues to spark outrage and grief worldwide, as her case remains one of the most harrowing child abuse tragedies in recent years.
