White House forced to issue statement after ‘Trump is dead’ rumors

The White House moved over the weekend to shut down a wave of online speculation suggesting that President Donald Trump was receiving medical treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The rumors surfaced amid renewed public scrutiny of Trump’s health, which has remained a recurring topic since the start of his second term. Reports of visible bruising on his hands and swelling in his ankles have fueled ongoing questions about his condition.
Speculation intensified on Saturday after the White House issued an unexpected late-morning update announcing that the president would not make any public appearances for the rest of the day. The announcement quickly sparked concern online, with claims about a possible hospitalization spreading widely on social media. Journalist Ed Krassenstein was among those cited in reports amplifying the speculation, further accelerating its reach.
The claims were swiftly denied by Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, who insisted the president remained at work throughout the weekend. In a statement, Cheung said Trump had been “working nonstop” and dismissed the rumors as unfounded. Trump’s most recent confirmed visit to Walter Reed took place in October, when he underwent a routine MRI scan. At the time, his physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, described the evaluation as part of a standard health maintenance plan and said the president was in “excellent overall health.”
