Sweet-looking boy grew up to be one of the most evil men on the planet

Ted Kaczynski, widely known as the Unabomber, was once regarded as a mathematical prodigy with an unusually accelerated academic path. Born in 1942 in Chicago, he advanced rapidly through school, eventually entering Harvard University at 16 and later earning a PhD in mathematics from the University of Michigan. He briefly joined academia as a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, before abruptly resigning in the late 1960s.
After leaving academic life, Kaczynski withdrew from society and settled in a remote cabin in Montana, where he lived in isolation for years. During this period, he developed a strong anti-technology ideology, arguing that modern industrial society was destructive to human freedom and nature. These views were later outlined in his 1995 manifesto Industrial Society and Its Future, which authorities ultimately published after he demanded its release.
Kaczynski was identified after his brother recognized similarities between the manifesto and earlier writings. He was arrested in 1996 and later pleaded guilty to federal charges, receiving a life sentence without parole. He died in custody in 2023 at the age of 81.
