‘Heartbroken’ Senator Mark Warner announces the death of his 36-year-old daughter

U.S. Senator Mark Warner is mourning the death of his daughter, Madison Warner, who has died at the age of 36. In a family statement, Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, said she passed away after a decades-long battle with type 1 diabetes and related health complications. The family described her as someone who “filled our lives with love and laughter,” adding that her absence leaves an “immeasurable void,” and requested privacy as they grieve.

Madison Warner largely lived a private life but was previously referenced by the senator in connection with his advocacy for affordable insulin and improved access to diabetes care. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition that requires lifelong insulin management and can lead to serious long-term complications affecting major organs. Warner had spoken in the past about the personal impact of the disease while calling for policy changes on insulin pricing.

News of her passing prompted condolences from across the political spectrum. Virginia officials including Gov. Abigail Spanberger and former Gov. Glenn Youngkin expressed sympathy, while Sen. Tim Kaine reflected on the family’s long personal ties. Rep. Don Beyer also offered condolences, and Vice President JD Vance joined in sending prayers, with officials from both parties emphasizing support for the Warner family during their loss.
