Teen told he just had ‘growing pains’ dies one day after diagnosis

A 16-year-old boy from Leigh has died just one day after being diagnosed with leukemia, in a case that has shocked his family and local community. Harley Andrews was admitted to Royal Bolton Hospital on November 8 after experiencing worsening symptoms, including blood in his urine. Just weeks earlier, he had visited a doctor feeling unwell but was reportedly told he was likely suffering from a viral infection or “growing pains.”
According to family friends, doctors later confirmed that Harley had an advanced and aggressive form of leukemia, which had already caused severe internal bleeding affecting his brain and other organs. He was admitted to hospital on a Saturday, and within hours of receiving the diagnosis, his condition deteriorated rapidly. In the early hours of November 9, Harley passed away, leaving his loved ones devastated and struggling to process the sudden loss.
Described as a warm and energetic teenager, Harley was a keen football and rugby player and a well-loved member of his community. A fundraiser has since been launched to support his family with funeral expenses, with tributes highlighting his bright personality and passion for sport. The tragedy has also raised awareness about the often subtle early symptoms of serious illnesses in young people, and the importance of seeking further medical attention if conditions persist or worsen.
