Legendary Country Star Passed Away At Age 85

Jeannie Seely, Grammy-winning country singer and Grand Ole Opry legend, died August 1 at age 85 from complications of an intestinal infection. Known as “Miss Country Soul,” Seely rose to fame in 1966 with her Grammy-winning hit “Don’t Touch Me” and went on to record over 15 albums, chart more than two dozen singles, and perform on the Opry stage for over 50 years. A trailblazer for women in country music, she was celebrated for her emotional vocals, bold style, and songwriting, with her work recorded by icons like Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. Her death comes just months after losing her husband, Eugene Ward, to cancer.
