‘Heartbroken’ Senator Mark Warner announces the death of his 36-year-old daughter

U.S. Senator Mark Warner is mourning the death of his daughter, Madison Warner, who has died at the age of 36, according to a statement from the family.
In their announcement, Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, described their daughter as someone who “filled our lives with love and laughter,” adding that her passing leaves an “immeasurable void.” The family said she died following a long battle with juvenile diabetes and related health complications.
Madison Warner had largely lived a private life. In earlier public remarks, Senator Warner occasionally referenced her condition while advocating for improved access to insulin and diabetes care. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the body produces little or no insulin, requiring lifelong management.
Following news of her death, condolences were offered by political leaders across party lines. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and Senator Tim Kaine both expressed sympathy and support for the family. Former Governor Glenn Youngkin also issued a statement offering prayers.
Vice President JD Vance likewise extended condolences, describing the loss as “terrible at such a young age” and offering support to the Warner family.
The family has requested privacy as they grieve.
