Federal Officials Announce Details of a Major Arrest

A routine Border Patrol checkpoint turned violent when a driver tried to flee and struck a federal agent. Now, the sentence is in—raising questions about risk and responsibility.
On August 1, 2023, agents stopped 26-year-old Kevin Dominguez on U.S. Highway 57 after a canine alerted to his trunk. When they found an undocumented person inside, Dominguez reversed suddenly, hit an agent, and sped off. He was quickly arrested and charged with assaulting a federal officer and unlawful transport.
A federal judge sentenced Dominguez to 18 months in prison, followed by supervised release, signaling that violent attempts to escape accountability carry serious consequences.
