Do you need to wash eggs before using them?

Eggs are a kitchen staple, but should you wash them before cooking? Not necessarily.

Eggs have a natural protective layer called the cuticle, which seals the shell and keeps bacteria out. Washing removes this barrier, making eggs more vulnerable. Salmonella risk is low with unwashed eggs, and boiling provides extra safety, killing surface bacteria while keeping the inside protected.
