Doctors predicted their baby would only have a few minutes to live …

Lisa Hough and her husband were living every parent’s worst nightmare. Their infant son, Karson, lay in critical condition in intensive care, sustained by life support. Despite the medical team’s tireless efforts, doctors delivered devastating news: there was nothing more they could do. The couple began preparing for the unthinkable — saying goodbye. What followed, however, would leave them stunned.
The Heartbreaking Decision
Karson’s fight had been long and exhausting. From the moment he entered intensive care, each breath was assisted by a ventilator. Though doctors did everything possible, his tiny body was not responding to treatment.
With great care, the medical team told Lisa and her husband it was time to let him go. They explained that once the ventilator was removed, Karson would likely survive no more than ten minutes because he was not expected to breathe on his own. Facing an unimaginable choice, the Houghs prepared to say goodbye to their beloved son and remove the tubes and wires keeping him alive.
Lisa later shared the emotional moment on Facebook:
“While we weren’t ready to say goodbye to Karson, we had come to terms with the inevitable. We were given 10 minutes after withdrawing intensive care and the ventilator and told he would not breathe on his own and to expect his heart to stop within those 10 minutes.”
