Florida Teens Praised as Heroes After Helping Stranded Man Experiencing Medical Emergency

Three Florida teenagers are being hailed as heroes after their quick actions helped save a man who appeared to be suffering a serious medical emergency on the side of a highway.

Logan Royer, Cody Magrone, and Brody Murray, aged 16 to 17, were inside a McDonald’s in Cooper City, Florida, when they noticed 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado struggling with a flat tire on South Flamingo Road.

According to authorities, Fernandez-Delgado’s phone battery had died, leaving him stranded while attempting to change the tire himself in hot weather conditions. The teens initially stopped to assist him but quickly realized he was in distress.

Witnesses and officials say the man began showing signs of a more serious medical issue, including difficulty breathing and chest pain, prompting the teens to call 911 and stay with him until emergency responders arrived. Dispatchers guided them through providing basic assistance while they waited.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office later said Fernandez-Delgado was “too ill to speak on the phone” and was showing symptoms consistent with a potential heart-related emergency, possibly worsened by heat exposure.

First responders indicated that the teens’ swift decision to seek help may have been critical in preventing a fatal outcome. Fernandez-Delgado has since recovered at home following treatment.

Officials praised the teenagers for their response, noting that their actions likely made the difference in a life-threatening situation.

Fernandez-Delgado’s family also expressed gratitude, with his son crediting the boys for stepping in at the right moment.

The teens later said they were simply in the right place at the right time and did what they felt anyone should do in the same situation.
