Community Mourns 8-Year-Old Remembered for Bravery After Tragic Family Incident

A small community in De Soto, Illinois is mourning the loss of 8-year-old Leland “Lee” Arnett, who died following a tragic incident at home that also left his mother seriously injured and hospitalized.
Family members describe Lee as a joyful and affectionate child, known for his bright personality and caring nature. Loved ones say he often showed a strong instinct to comfort and protect those around him, traits that have left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
According to authorities, the child became involved during a violent incident inside the family home on May 13. Emergency responders later transported his mother, Deborah, to hospital, where she continues to recover from significant injuries. The circumstances of the case remain under investigation.
