“I Had No Idea”: Woman Warns After Trying Viral Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Hack Overnight

A woman has shared her unexpected experience after trying a viral hair care trend involving apple cider vinegar, saying the results were far from the “soft and shiny” transformation she had hoped for.
She described waking up to an unpleasant, sharp smell lingering on her pillowcase and noticing that her scalp felt tight and irritated. Instead of smooth, manageable hair, she found that her strands felt rough and prone to snagging when she ran her fingers through them.
During rinsing, she said the vinegar washed out easily, and there were a few minor positives—her scalp appeared less flaky and her roots felt cleaner. However, the overall condition of her hair told a different story, with the lengths feeling drier and more fragile than before.
Experts generally caution against leaving undiluted or long-contact apple cider vinegar treatments on the scalp, noting that while diluted use can sometimes help clarify buildup, improper application can disrupt the scalp’s natural balance and lead to dryness or irritation.
