Austin Metcalf’s Mother Delivers Emotional Statement in Court as Family Faces Convicted Teen

In a courtroom marked by heavy emotion, the family of Austin Metcalf, a teenager killed in a violent incident, delivered powerful victim impact statements following the sentencing of Karmelo Anthony. Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, described the lasting absence of her son, speaking of an empty room, a bed that will never be used again, and a life now defined by visits to a gravesite rather than shared moments at home.

She described Austin Metcalf as a kind and unifying presence, saying he was a “hugger” and a “peacemaker” who brought people together. Addressing Anthony directly, she contrasted her lifelong grief as a mother with what she said would be his eventual release from prison, calling attention to the permanence of her loss.

Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, also spoke, expressing anger and devastation over his son’s death. He accused Anthony of lacking the courage to face what he had done, while acknowledging that the tragedy had fundamentally changed his life. Despite his grief, he said he was choosing to forgive the person, not the act.

He closed his statement by rejecting attempts to frame the case through broader social divisions, saying “we all bleed the same color,” and emphasizing that actions carry consequences. The courtroom was left in silence as the family’s statements concluded a deeply emotional hearing.
