A 20-year-old woman has died after being caught in a sudden shooting in a busy commercial area, turning an ordinary afternoon into a scene of panic and tragedy.
Authorities say Mariana Gómez, who was walking along Fifth Street while carrying a résumé and preparing for job opportunities, was among several people caught in the chaos when gunfire erupted around 5:30 p.m. Witnesses initially mistook the sounds for fireworks before realizing a shooting was underway.
The incident reportedly began as a targeted attack on a local shopkeeper who had previously raised concerns about threats. However, the violence quickly spilled into a crowded public space, forcing pedestrians to run for cover as panic spread through the area.
