Michael Douglas Says He May Step Back From Acting After Nearly 60-Year Career

Actor and producer Michael Douglas has said he is considering slowing down his acting career after nearly six decades in Hollywood, signaling a potential shift away from the industry he has long helped define.
The 80-year-old star noted in recent remarks that he does not want to continue working at the same intense pace, joking that he would prefer not to “drop dead on set.” His comments reflect a broader desire to reduce his workload and prioritize personal time.
Douglas began his career as a producer on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, before rising to international fame through major roles in films such as Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, and Basic Instinct. In later years, he also appeared in projects including the Ant-Man franchise and the Netflix series The Kominsky Method.
While he has not formally retired, Douglas indicated that future work will be limited and selective, with a focus on projects that are meaningful to him. He is currently attached to the upcoming film Looking Through Water, which also features his son, Cameron Douglas.
