Tragedy in Birmingham: 3-Year-Old Dies After Being Left in Hot Car by DHR Contractor
Three-year-old Ke’Torrius “KJ” Starkes Jr. of Bessemer died on June 22 after being left in a hot car for five hours by a contract worker for Alabama’s Department of Human Resources. Temperatures that day reached 96°F, with the car likely exceeding 150°F inside. KJ had been placed in DHR custody due to concerns about drug use at home. He was pronounced dead at 6:03 PM.
