A charger left plugged into the wall may seem harmless, but it can still pose a small, ongoing risk over time. Even when not actively charging a device, some adapters continue to draw a minimal amount of power, which can cause slight heat buildup and gradual wear on internal components.

Over long periods, this constant low-level stress can contribute to insulation fatigue, weakened solder joints, or reduced efficiency. In rare cases, electrical surges or manufacturing defects can increase the likelihood of overheating or failure, particularly in low-quality or damaged chargers.

The risk is higher when cords are frayed, plugs are loose, or devices are left in unstable outlets. Dust buildup and poor ventilation can also add to the problem. For this reason, many safety guidelines recommend unplugging chargers when they are not in use and replacing any equipment that shows signs of damage, as a simple precaution to reduce unnecessary electrical risk.
