Not every two days, not every four days: how often should you wash your hair, according to a dermatologist?

Healthy hair starts with a clean scalp. Experts recommend washing hair 3–5 times a week, depending on hair type and lifestyle, to prevent buildup, odor, and irritation.

Contrary to popular belief, frequent washing doesn’t make hair oilier. The key is tailoring your routine to your scalp, activity level, and environment. Regular washes help remove sebum and product residue, improve follicle health, and control bacteria and fungi, but individual needs may vary.
