Former Army Engineer Shows “Foil Cleanse” to Combat Modern Electromagnetic Stress

Dave Setzer, a former U.S. Army engineer, has been studying the effects of so-called “dirty electricity” on the human body for years. On stage, he doesn’t demonstrate with complex gadgets—instead, he holds up a simple roll of aluminum foil. Setzer explains that human bodies can act like antennas, absorbing chaotic electromagnetic fields from Wi‑Fi routers, 5G towers, and power lines, leaving some people feeling anxious, wired, or fatigued.

His proposed solution, dubbed the “foil cleanse,” is straightforward: participants place bare feet on the ground and hold sheets of foil over their soles, palms, and sometimes the back of the neck for 10–20 minutes, away from active devices. Many report a surprising sense of calm, as if static has drained from their bodies.

Whether described as grounding, shielding, or a placebo effect, Setzer’s ritual highlights a modern challenge: carving out intentional moments to reset the nervous system amid constant digital stimulation.
