How to get rid of rats and cockroache

You don’t need toxic sprays or costly exterminators to start taking back your home. Simple pantry ingredients—rice, sugar, and a few carefully chosen additives—can turn pests’ own appetites against them. For cockroaches, a mixture of cooked rice, sugar, and a small amount of boric acid creates an irresistible bait, especially when placed behind appliances, under sinks, and in dark cabinets where they feel secure.
For rats, uncooked rice can serve as the base for a more potent homemade bait. Mixed with plaster of Paris or baking soda and sweetened with sugar, it can cause fatal reactions once ingested and hydrated. These approaches are inexpensive and discreet, but they require caution: keep all mixtures out of reach of children and pets, and clearly label containers. With patience and careful handling, everyday kitchen staples can become an effective—and safer—way to curb a persistent infestation.
