Alleged Drunk Driver Flees Police, Injured in Swamp Encounter After Crashing in Louisiana

Authorities say a dramatic police chase in Louisiana ended in a swamp and left an alleged drunk driver hospitalized after a confrontation with an alligator.
The suspect, identified as Victor Rivas, allegedly lost control of his Toyota while driving along Interstate 310, swerving off the road and striking a concrete barrier, which caused significant damage to the vehicle, including a shredded tire.
According to officials, after the crash, Rivas fled on foot from pursuing officers and entered a nearby swamp area. Body camera footage and aerial drone tracking later documented the unfolding search as he moved through waist-deep water and dense vegetation in low visibility conditions.
During the escape, authorities say Rivas was briefly attacked by an American alligator. He sustained injuries to his arms but was able to break free and continue moving through the swamp.
Police eventually located him with the help of drone surveillance and took him into custody after he was pulled from the water. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say multiple charges are pending in connection with the incident, including driving under the influence and fleeing law enforcement.
